A spa break is a perfect escape for a girls getaway, a romantic break or even a solo retreat. But why not go to the place that has been perfecting relaxation since the Romans built their own spa baths here using naturally hot spring water 2,000 years ago?
Bath, in Southern England is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site and is about a 90-minute train ride from London’s Paddington station and the only place in the UK where you can still bathe in mineral-rich warm waters.
After a day of visiting the Roman baths, admiring the stunning Georgian architecture and visiting your third teahouse of the day you’ll be ready to relax in your hotel room. A short walk from the center of town towards Sydney Gardens, Bath’s oldest park and a favorite place of Jane Austen’s when she lived in the city, you’ll find the 5 star Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel. Beautifully landscaped gardens lead you up to the majestic main building here you can live out all your Pride and Prejudice fantasies as you imagine Mr. Darcy has brought you home to his mansion!
The 131 rooms manage to maintain the traditional classic romance of an English stately home while still featuring all the modern amenities you would expect in a luxury hotel. Flat screen TV’s with speakers in the beautiful marble bathroom (so you don’t miss a thing) and super comfortable plush bedding create an oasis of comfort close to the heart of the city.
Many of the rooms offer views over the gardens and historic Bath, and the Presidential suites even come with butler service. As expected in a place that is known for practically inventing the spa scene, the Macdonald hotel has its own in-house spa featuring indoor and outdoor pools, saunas and steam rooms and a full menu of Elemis treatments available.
Relaxing all day can really take it out of you, so once you dry off from a day spent floating around the hot springs and pools recharge with a delicious meal at the award-winning Vellore restaurant. The double AA Rosette-rated restaurant, housed in the elegant and inviting ballroom dining space, serves up a variety of modern English dishes included griddled 21-day aged rump steak and a wide selection of fine wines. You can also choose to dine at the covered outdoor terrace for a more casual experience.
Don’t leave for home before trying a traditional afternoon tea experience in the drawing room, including finger sandwiches and cream teas and taking a walk around the gardens while you pretend you are the lord or lady of the manor, now where is that butler?
Dinner, bed and breakfast options are available from $358 per room, per night.
