The chic boutique hotel FOUND:RE close to the art hub Roosevelt Row, in Phoenix is about to celebrate its first birthday and considering this place is the epitome of “cool” I am betting it will be one hell of a party.
First impressions are everything, at FOUND:RE you are welcomed by a huge reception desk featuring a painting of a sprawling, nude Burt Reynolds complete with a blonde wig. This arresting piece is by Phoenix native Randy Slack and is just one of the first surprises that await guests.
Mike Oleskow, the cultural curator at FOUND:RE is responsible for acquiring every piece of art that adorns spaces both obvious and unexpected throughout this quirky yet luxe property. Check out the corridors to find installations and don’t forget to check your individual room door plate artwork.
Cool off from the desert sun by taking a dip in the swimming pool and take in the featured murals that evoke a mid century nostalgia with their playful characters and even a lime green dinosaur statue.
From the large well-appointed rooms with their industrial styled bed frames to the ever changing art shows, this place is filled with hip touches that make you continually get your phone out to snap another picture or two.
Part art gallery, part lounge, it has an accessible coolness. I felt lucky to be here, yet I belonged.
At Match, the restaurant inside the hotel, guests can continue their art education, as chef Matthew Hobbs takes elegant and modern plating to a whole new level.
I sat at the kitchen view counter, with my charming dining companion, Parley Stock, a walking advert for chic downtown Phoenix living. We enjoyed tender dry aged Wagyu ribeyes, all washed down with a 2015 Lenotti Valpolicella.
Phoenix offers so many unique experiences for visitors to discover, from hiking and outdoor pursuits to haute cuisine and high brow art. At FOUND:RE it’s almost party time-happy birthday baby!
